This Chrome over Ebony finish Tachihara was not a regular catalog item and could only be ordered with a custom request to the factory, making it exceptionally rare.
The Tachihara 4X5 is a superb, modern-design field camera and a testament to centuries-long Japanese woodworking tradition. This later version of the Tachihara production features improved locking tabs, teflon washers and bearings and better gripping knobs. This camera is made of 400-year-old, kiln-dried cherry wood, finished in Ebony stain. This is an ultralight camera (~3.2lbs), making for an ideal backpacking kit. Paired with two modern multi-coated lenses, film and holders, this kit is ready to go straight out of the box.
